At Strathmore North Primary School, the specialist classes we have include: Visual Arts, Physical Education, Japanese, Science and Technology.
Visual Arts
From Foundation to Year 6, students participate in weekly Visual Arts lessons that nurture creativity, curiosity and self-expression. As they progress through the years, students explore a broad range of artistic experiences, developing skills and confidence through creating, experimenting and refining their ideas. They learn to communicate meaning through visual forms, draw inspiration from a variety of cultural, historical and contemporary influences, and reflect on both their own work and the work of others.
Japanese
From Foundation to Year 6, students engage in Japanese language learning that develops their communication skills and intercultural understanding. Through speaking, listening, reading and writing activities, students build confidence in using Japanese to share ideas, interact with others and make meaning from a variety of texts. As they progress, students develop their knowledge of Japanese language structures and writing systems while exploring connections between language, culture and identity. Learning Japanese encourages curiosity about the world, appreciation of cultural diversity and an understanding of how language helps people connect across different communities and experiences.
Physical Education

Through a variety of individual, partner and team-based activities, students build their confidence, coordination and physical capabilities while learning the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship and personal responsibility. As they progress through the school, students develop and refine a range of movement skills, apply strategies in different game and sporting contexts, and learn to work collaboratively with others. Physical Education provides students with opportunities to challenge themselves, stay active and develop a lifelong appreciation for health, fitness and wellbeing.

From Foundation to Year 6, students engage in a hands-on Science program that encourages curiosity, inquiry and a deeper understanding of the world around them. Through investigations, experiments and collaborative learning experiences, students explore concepts across the major areas of science, developing their skills in observing, questioning, predicting and problem-solving. As they progress through the school, students build their scientific knowledge and understanding of living things, materials, forces, energy, Earth and space, while learning how science helps explain natural phenomena and supports innovation in everyday life. The program fosters critical thinking, creativity and a lifelong interest in scientific discovery.
Technology
From Year 3 to Year 6, students participate in Technology lessons that develop their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills through engaging, real-world learning experiences. Students explore a range of digital technologies and design processes, learning how to investigate challenges, generate ideas and create innovative solutions. As they progress, they build their confidence in computational thinking, digital literacy and emerging technologies while working both independently and collaboratively on projects. The Technology program encourages students to think critically, communicate effectively and apply their learning in meaningful ways, preparing them to be capable and responsible users and creators of technology.
